Have you ever felt like you were under attack? That the enemy (Satan) is nipping at your heels? You are not alone. Through God's help, we can overcome the attacks against us by recognizing where we are vulnerable or knowing our danger points. My morning devotional on May 7 focused on three danger points we need to know:
1. Weariness: Being weary or exhausted can cause us to make poor decisions on what's convenient rather than what's good for the long term. Alcoholics Anonymous helps people remember the H.A.L.T. sign: when you're Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired, we are vulnerable and will make bad decisions.
2. Excitement: Be careful of where you go looking for excitement, and how you react when you find it. It can cost you your career, your family, and your reputation.
3. Discouragement: In a moment of discouragement Peter did what he swore he'd never do: deny his Lord. Discouragement can cause us to say things that we don't mean and do things that are out of character. (See Jude 20.)
The devotional writer states that weariness, excitement, and discouragement were perhaps what Jesus had in mind when he said, "If the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched" (Matthew 24:43, NKJV).
