"How Temptation Works" and "Four Sources of Peace" adapted from Thomas a' Kempis

During my devotional time, I have been working through a book called Devotional Classics by Richard Foster.  In a segment based upon the book "The Imitation of Christ" by Thomas a' Kempis, Foster provides some help on temptation and peace over temptation.

Foster encouraged the reader to write them down on a slip of paper and to carry them around throughout the week as a reminder of God's peace in times of temptation.  I thought I would share them with you all today -- Blessings, Pastor Bob

Temptation works like this:

  1. The thought enters the mind.
  2. The thought sparks imagination.
  3. We feel pleasure and entertain it.
  4. We engage in the evil action.

Four Sources of Peace:

  1. Strive to do another's [God's] will.
  2. Choose to have less than more.
  3. Seek the lower places in life.
  4. Desire the will of God be completely fulfilled in me.
