Sermon Notes

“Leaving a Legacy”
Romans 12: 5-8; Act 20:35
Part 6 of “The Treasure Principle” Series
June 7, 2009

Where we have been:
The Treasure Principle: “You can’t take it with you, but you can send it on ahead.”

Treasure Principle Key #1: “God Owns Everything. I’m His Money Manager.”

Treasure Principle Key #2: “My Heart Always Goes Where I put God’s Money.”

Treasure Principle Key #3: “Heaven, not earth, is my home.”

Treasure Principle Key #4: “I should live not for the dot but for the line.” (The dot is life on earth and the line is life in heaven.)

Treasure Principle Key #5: “Giving is the only antidote to materialism.”

Treasure Principle Key #6: “God prospers me not to raise my standard of living, but to raise my standard of giving.”

What will be your Legacy?
1.      How will you be Remembered? What will your obituary say?
2.      Do you have the Spiritual Gift of Giving? How can you allow God to develop that gift within you?
3.      How did the story of the Widow’s Mite get recorded in scripture?
a.      Someone was told and her giving was known and celebrated
4.      Are you willing to make a Giving Covenant and allow your legacy to be one of giving?
Here’s How:
1.      Affirm God’s full ownership of me
2.      I will set aside the first-fruits – starting with at least 10 percent.
3.      I Recognize that God has entrusted wealth to me so that I can be “generous on every occasion”.
4.      I will ask God to teach me to give sacrificially to HIS purposes.
5.      I will seek to lay up heavenly treasures, after all I can’t take the earthly treasures with me.
