“Why Do People Have a Negative View of Christians?”
Matthew 6:1-18 Part 1 of Series: Sermons Out of the Box
June 14, 2009 by Rev. Robert Lee

The Reality: Christians have a reputation of being “hypocritical – saying one thing and doing another – and [outsiders to Christianity] are skeptical of our morally superior attitudes.”[1]

The Issues: Given this reality, what are the issues we need to confront?

1.     We have an INTEGRITY issue: Our lives don’t match our beliefs. Matthew 15:8-9.

2.     We have a PURITY issue: Young people in our churches are showing major cracks in their moral perspectives. 1 Peter 1:13-15.

3.     We have a TRANSPARENCY issue: We deny the inconsistencies in our lives and we do not appear “real” and “authentic” to young people. Romans 12:3
