Tuesday of this week, four members of NHBC and I were among over 100 Baptists from the Metro-Richmond area who helped in Affordable Housing Awareness Week. Habitat for Humanity was one of the regional partners and we worked in a new subdivision of 17 Habitat homes on Angus Rd. in south Richmond.
Rev. Nita May, the Regional Ministries Coordinator with Central Virginia Baptist Ministries, networked the Baptist volunteers in this project. Although it rained buckets and the volunteers were wet and muddy, we persevered and got a lot of work done. I will post some photos as soon as I have access to them. But this was a great way for us to reach out and help our community in the name of Christ!
Here's an example of who will live in a Habitat Home: While on the job site, I spoke with the Key Coordinator of Affordable Housing Awareness Week. She told me that one of the homes will be owned by an employee of a major bank in Richmond. She is a single parent working in customer service. Through Habitat, she will be a new homeowner! Home ownership helps people to feel good about themselves and to have the security of being in their own place. This is just one example of many people helped by Habitat for Humanity and other organizations that help people step into home ownership. Perhaps you will check out the above links and volunteer your time and talents to help others. You won't regret it! Blessings, Pastor Bob
